Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Unable to Import .MOV Files

  • Unable to Import .MOV Files

Hi, I use Vegas Movie Studio 4 on a Win XP system. When I try to import a .MOV file created using a Nikon camera I get the error message

“An error occured while opening one or more files.
The file format plugin for the specified format was not properly initialized.”

Is there any way to fix this? I tried a different editor and it had no problem.

Do you have quicktime installed? When you installed it, did you choose “custom” and install everything (especially the “Authoring” components?)

After I posted my inquiry I downloaded the current version of Quicktime and installed it. That seems to have done the trick. Strangely, later when I tried to Vegas 4, the problem re-occurred. Now, this morning, it worked fine. I didn’t the notice the custom authoring option and I’ll look. BTW, why is that important?

    Thanks!

I think the “authoring” problem may have been eliminated in the most current version of Quicktime. I know it was a big problem with QT5. Just not sure about QT6 or QT7.
