Shutdown background programs
I think that I may be having a problem with Vegas since upgrading to Windows 10. Things hardly move on the timeline either when I play a video or if I tried to render.
I’m finding that if I go CTRL,ALT,DEL I can see as many as 60 items listed in task manager. I seem to recall from many years ago that there may be a quick way to turn most or all of these in one go. Is there a way to do this?

What specifically are those 60 items you see running in the task manager?

Windows 10 has much more background processes, that’s how things pop, suspend while not in use, and run things like the active start menu.
I have been running Win10 and vegas 13 for a very long time with out disabling Windows background services. You may have another issue that is creating problems.
I would make sure windows is fully updated, video drivers are specific to your device, google DPC latency and investigate issues with drivers on your system.

I have just booted up the machine then pressed CTRL,ALT,DEL & this time it shows 56 items running plus 24 processes. I don’t know if this is normal but its been suggested to me that it isn’t. I know that I set some of the things on the list to be ignored like Cortana. I have never uploaded any photo’s to this site before I hope that I’m doing it OK. The list is so long it’s on 3 snips.

You’re probably thinking of the utility called “EditItAll2”. That will end all background tasks. Just Google “end it all windows 10”
I happen to notice you are using AVG AntiVirus. While good at one time, that’s known to be quite a bloated resource hog these days. I would try disabling it or uninstalling it if it won’t disable and see if your problems persist. I was once a user of AVG and I stopped using it because it became a resource drain on the system. There were more AVG processes running in the background than my programs running in the foreground. It looks like it hasn’t changed.

I have a friend who tells me that he has almost the same settup choices. We compared them all. We opted out of almost every conceivable option in Windows 10. He doesn’t have the problem with playback using Vegas that I’m experiencing. It had a clean install of Windows 10 & ever since nothing but problems so it appears that the problem must be elsewhere. I fix one problem then there are more Windows updates and things go mad again. For instance in Explorer (This PC) there are no dividers for columns across the right hand side & you cant see the drop down arrow that allows you to see other column features.

Yeah, Windows update has always been a pain in the *** for many a editors!
I never ever in my entire Career allow any form of Windows update to be
installed on my main editing system, and thus i have never had any serious
system issues.

Windows Update messed up my computer once… just once… then I shut it off and it never bothered me again. lol 😉
It’s the first thing I turn off after a new install of Windows.
I’m not sure what your problem might be (sorry)… I would just never use AVG.

Also i don’t know what these Anti-virus software developers are really thinking!
They all started out as cream of the crop antivirus tools, that everyone is using and recommending…. Then for unseen reasons they begin to cram all

I do not think it is wise to tell people not to upgrade their windows. Its just not smart. My experience with windows upgrade has bee very positive over the years, and I have not had a core application stop working due to an upgrade.
Any trouble I have had, has been due to 3rd party apps. Since then I just do not run 3rd party extensions to Vegas. Most are just gimmicks that you can do with the core plugins, or with proper compositing of source materials.
Applying windows updates continually helps keep your system more secure and less prone to malicious software.

The processes I don’t like the looks of in the list provided are:
Classic Start Menu
AVG – lose it and use windows defender integrated with Windows. Then run Malware bytes once a month to verify.
Unchecky – Not sure what this is but sounds like freeware.
After uninstalling questionable apps, run CCleaner + the reg clean, reboot.
Then preform an sfc /scannow from an admin command prompt. Research and repair any issues found.
Then process windows pending updates.
Make sure you are using the latest build of Vegas.
