[Aaron Star] “I do not think it is wise to tell people not to upgrade their windows.”

We are not telling people not to update their Windows PC. I’m sorry if it sounded like that. We are recommending that you update at the time of your own choosing, hopefully right after you have created a full backup so that if anything goes wrong with the update you can recover quickly.

It is foolish to trust your business computer to the whimsical updates from Microsoft. No fortune 500 company does this and neither should you if you are running a video business. Stability during a project is far more important than updates that could destabilize things.

I’m speaking from experience here. I had a Windows update disable my development tools by installing an incomparable version of .Net Framework the day before I was to leave for NAB to demo my software to the world. It was devastating. I had to find another computer that did not have the update and install my tools so that I could finish my code. It was 8 hours of wasted time recovering. From that day forward, I never let Microsoft apply updates in the middle of a project, and never without having a full backup first.
