  • Best software to convert into uncompressed before importing to Vegas Pro 12

    Hi!
I have some Mp4 files that cannot be opened in Vegas Pro 12. Nevermind the details, my question is what program/coverter do you usually use to get those unfriendly files into Vegas? My idea is to convert them into uncompressed AVI to get them into Vegas and do the rest. And I also include file details by Mediainfo:

    Format : MPEG-4
    Format profile : Sony PSP
    Codec ID : MSNV
    File size : 79.3 MiB
    Duration : 1mn 14s
Overall bit rate mode : Variable
    Overall bit rate : 8 977 Kbps

    Video
    ID : 1
    Format : MPEG-4 Visual
Format profile : Advanced Coding Efficiency@L4
    Format settings, BVOP : Yes
    Format settings, QPel : No
Format settings, GMC : No warppoints
Format settings, Matrix : Default (H.263)
    Codec ID : 20
    Duration : 1mn 14s
    Bit rate mode : Variable
    Bit rate : 9 000 Kbps
Maximum bit rate : 14.0 Mbps
    Width : 1 280 pixels
    Height : 720 pixels
    Display aspect ratio : 16:9
    Frame rate mode : Constant
    Frame rate : 29.970 fps
    Color space : YUV
    Bit depth : 8 bits
    Scan type : Progressive
    Compression mode : Lossy
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.326
    Stream size : 78.7 MiB (99%)

What converters are best and what settings are best?

    Thanks in advance.

Unless you have a RAID 0 array to handle the throughput required by the extremely large uncompressed video files I would strongly discourage this approach.

From your Mediainfo it looks like “Codec ID : MSNV” is what’s throwing Vegas. These looks like Sony Cyber-Shot files. You can convert them to Motion-JPEG with a tool like AviDemux 2.5 or you can just use something like Handbreak to convert them to a more friendly MP4 file.

Yea, for a free encoder it does an outstanding job. Glad it worked for you.
