If one does use AE, what is the best render option?
Posted by Ron Whitaker on January 22, 2014 at 9:47 pmIf I do editing within Sony Vegas Pro, and then want to do post within AE, what is the best render options (codec) to render to with the least amount of compression so that quality isn’t lost on the video?
Thanks.

Quicktime what? Quicktime is a file format that can contain many types of encoded video streams. So unless you talk about a specific video codec then one cannot answer that question.
Codecs might be AVC, mpeg-2, DNxHD.DNxHD would give you the least compressions and biggest files. For that you would have to download the free DNxHD codec from Avid.

In another thread you asked about Cineform. This would be similar to DNxHD.
A high bitrate AVC/H.264 stream is another high quality option.

January 23, 2014 at 3:36 amActually, I figured it out!
I checked within the Quicktime option within Render As and there are A LOT of codecs available.
Some time ago I downloaded the Avid DNxHD codec, so that’s the one I’d probably use.
Thanks.

January 23, 2014 at 9:21 amFor short animations going from AE into Vegas I tend to use the ‘Animation’ codec and for more video based content QT I aslo use Avid DNXHD.
Also for stand alone AE projects the QT .h264 codec will work fine for YouTube/ Vimeo quality output. Yes it compresses the content but It’s going to get compressed by YouTube anyway.

January 23, 2014 at 10:52 amI recommend and use Quicktime because its globally compatible,
easy on the system, doesn’t output massive file sizes and outputs
pristine quality despite compression (compression which your eyes
cant even notice anyway).
So my three choices from AE are always Photo-jpeg, Animation or png.Steve Rhoden
