July 7, 2009 at 3:58 amthis is mostly just academic for me, I don’t tend to use the timecode jump… but i had a look anyway 🙂
I was expecting to click on it (so it brings up the box), then put my cursor after the last number and type something like “+ 0.22” to jump forward 22 frames. That didn’t work at ALL, gave some very large changes.
I learnt that if you don’t deselect the timecode (i.e when you press the button, it brings up the box with the timecode selected, LEAVE it like that) then type +0.22 or whatever, then it works as expected.

After using AE for such a long time and trying a few possibilities I actually gave up on this one until a student experimented a little and found out that +- worked to move the CTI (current time indicator) backwards.
It all boils down to AE allowing for the CTI to move to a negative time value. While it is at times useful for layer in-points to start at a negative point in time, I really don’t see any benefit for the CTI itself to move into a negative timecode.
If the CTI was prevented from moving into this negative area, then typing -22 would correctly and intuitively move the CTI back 22 frames.
Do you guys see any use for the CTI to move into negative territory?
Cheers
