The Timeline Indicator is currently set at 00;00;05;20
After clicking on the timecode display, what do you type if you want to

    a) move to a specific time such as 00;00;12;22
    b) move 22 frames forward
    c) move 22 frames back

    Cheers

Interesting Quiz RoRK. I thought I knew until I tried it.

    A) To go to 00;00;12;22 type 1222 or 12.22
    B) 22 frames forward type + 22
    c) 22 frames backward type +-22 **This one got me** plus minus 22

this is mostly just academic for me, I don’t tend to use the timecode jump… but i had a look anyway 🙂

I was expecting to click on it (so it brings up the box), then put my cursor after the last number and type something like “+ 0.22” to jump forward 22 frames. That didn’t work at ALL, gave some very large changes.

I learnt that if you don’t deselect the timecode (i.e when you press the button, it brings up the box with the timecode selected, LEAVE it like that) then type +0.22 or whatever, then it works as expected.

    Hi friends….

i saw afterfx works like this for me…
when we type numbers til 99 it goes for frame but if you want to jump to sec i just type 100 for 1 sec, 200 for 2, and on and on…

[Brian Charles] “c) 22 frames backward type +-22 **This one got me** plus minus 22”

After using AE for such a long time and trying a few possibilities I actually gave up on this one until a student experimented a little and found out that +- worked to move the CTI (current time indicator) backwards.

It all boils down to AE allowing for the CTI to move to a negative time value. While it is at times useful for layer in-points to start at a negative point in time, I really don’t see any benefit for the CTI itself to move into a negative timecode.

If the CTI was prevented from moving into this negative area, then typing -22 would correctly and intuitively move the CTI back 22 frames.

Do you guys see any use for the CTI to move into negative territory?

    Cheers

None at all. It was counter-intuitive and useless to me.
