Vegas Pro 11 preview slowing to a crawl
This is weird. I’ve been editing on Vegas 11 since 2011 and haven’t had this problem, even on multicamera projects with over a dozen tracks.
The footage is from my Canon Vixia HF S21, 1920×1080, 24 fps, AVCHD. I’ve got the project settings matching it and preview set to Preview Auto. Yet the playback is playing at 2 or 3 frames a second. I usually have Dynamic RAM Preview set to 100 MB. I tried changing it to 150 and 200, which worked for a minute or so, but then it goes back to a crawl again.
What could be causing this? My computer has been able to handle this with many tracks before, including with Vegas plugins.
If I stop Vegas for a minute or two, playback runs completely fine for another minute or two. Then it slows to a stutter.
I’m not sure what to do. I have a quad core 3.07 Ghz Intel i7, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, I’m editing footage on an external 1 TB hard drive with an esata cable that’s got plenty of space on it, and I’ve never really dealt with this before with Vegas 11.
Here’s a screencap of my tasks running, though I have Firefox closed while editing.
My render times are going way up as well.
