Hi, I’m using Vegas Pro 12, the latest build (394) and I was hoping it would solve this problem but it didn’t (I upgraded from Pro 10.)

I have these files that are output by my Roland VR5 and I would really like to edit them natively instead of using Roland’s transcoder that changes them to WMV files. There is a definite quality loss.

I can open the file in VLC and play it just fine. But when I got to put it on a Vegas timeline it says “none of the files can be opened by Vegas.”

Here is a Mediainfo dump on it:

I’m really not sure what to do about this. I can open the file and play it with no problem in VLC so I really don’t understand.

    Any help is appreciated.

[Griff Hamlin] “I can open the file and play it with no problem in VLC so I really don’t understand.”

What you have to understand is that MPEG4 is an incredibly broad specification and no software can support it all. Also it’s easier to just play the file back than to be able to edit it. I see that your video is using Advanced Simple@L5 profile. It could be that Vegas doesn’t support this profile in which case you would need to convert the footage to a format that Vegas can edit. I’m just guessing here. You should probably contact Sony and see what they say about why Vegas can’t read these files but this is a common problem with MP4 files.
