I switch between windows a lot when editing, gathering clips, sounds, etc. from other folders. I use ALT+TAB a lot and I always have this issue when going back to Vegas, there’s a good 3-5 second delay before the hourglass goes away and the location marker is available again. Anyone know why this is or how to make things more immediate?

[Vincent Levalois] “Anyone know why this is or how to make things more immediate?”

Yes, this is happening because Vegas releases the open file handles on all media so that you can edit them in another program (which is one reason why you might Alt+Tab away from Vegas Pro). When you come back, it then has to reopen all the media to pick up any changes.

If you don’t want this behavior you can disable it by going to Options | Preferences | General and uncheck “Close media files when not the active application” and Vegas Pro will keep a handle on the media files.

Excellent, thank you very much for the response and the solution. I rarely edit outside of the app, but I’ll be aware of this from now on.

    Thanks again!

OMG thank you so much. this annoyed me for YEARS !
it should have some warn or something to let user aware of this.. maybe when it comes back to focus, some popup or some floating box saying “reopening the files. change this behavior in blablaba….”

    thanks again !
