Videos always look bad on YouTube
Hello. I have been trying to fix this problem for a while now and I can’t find a solution. Every video I render (I have tried over 300 different videos…) looks extremely ugly on YouTube. I have rendered videos with 250 million bitrate and with 10 mil, 20 mil, x264, wmv, mp4, anything. I usually record my gaming videos with Fraps, but I have tried Dxtory, MSI Afterburner, Mirillis Action and more. The actual rendered footage looks 1:1 to the original footage and what I see on the screen while recording (no lag or anything either) I can’t figure this out….

I have tried using SSL uploader for YouTube but that doesn’t solve anything. The Windows I am using is completely new (installed a few days ago).
I don’t understand why it always does that. The footage looks extremely good on my computer, but once I upload it on YouTube it turns into a nightmare.
Any suggestions? I have tried using Windows Movie Maker too.. Camtasia, Cyberlink and many others. It also can’t be the browser or my internet because I use 3 different computers with 3 different internet connections… tried uploading the files from all of them. I also sent the file to a friend after rendering it (looks 1:1) he uploaded it and it was the same thing.. ugly video… so it’s not my internet I guess. I don’t know what to do.. I just can’t seem to fix this. I even tried using the same recording settings + render settings as some guy on YouTube and his videos look amazing while mine are the same as this. I disabled CUDA (using 2x GTX 580 3GB in SLI) that didn’t solve anything.. tried rendering with CPU only, same thing.
I am absolutely lost. Any ideas? Do I need codecs or to change something? People just open Fraps, record their stuff and use the most horrible settings in Sony Vegas and still get better videos than mine. How does that work? I am starting to think my PC is cursed.. lol.
Using i7 980x, 12 GB RAM, 2x GTX 580 3GB, 2 SSD, 2x 3TB HDD if that even matters.

I can see there is some macro-blocking on your video which is usually from the bit rate being too low.
Since you are using Vegas Pro 11.0, try using the MainConcept AVC encoder with the Internet HD 1080p template. This should give you clean results.

Do you have any codec packs installed? (e.g., K-Lite, etc.) These can definitely cause quality problems.

I had K lite installed, but then I removed it. the only thing that’s on my PC is x264 vfw for Dxtory so I can record with it. I removed that too.. didn’t fix anything. This is the first thing I can’t seem to fix on a PC for 10+ years

And you may not be able to because codec packs are like viruses. They rarely uninstall cleanly and often leave your computer in an unusable state for video editing. I hate to say this but rebuilding from a clean install (and never installing a codec pack again) is sometimes the only solution. Good luck.

This was already happening without any codecs installed so it’s not the codecs. Also, how can the footage look 1:1 after rendering it and then look extremely ugly on youtube?

Oh… so you’re saying that the quality of the footage after render is fine. It’s only after you upload to YouTube that it gets blocky? You’re right that’s not a codec issue (sorry). I thought the video looked bad after render.
I can’t imagine why that would happen after upload. Try adding a slight Gaussian Blur (0.002) to the video and upload that and see if it makes a difference. Sometimes there is too much sharp detail and a slight blur (that’s almost unnoticeable) makes it easier to encode better. Also try desaturating the video a bit (i.e., add a Color Corrector and pull down the Saturation a little). These are two things that make it easier for the encoder to do it’s work.

Alright thanks I’ll have to try that. Yes the video looks exactly the same as what I see on my screen while playing (after rendering) but when I upload it.. it looks really really bad.
