How to changing several take names simultaneously?
Posted by Gilles Gagnon on July 20, 2012 at 3:29 pmI often need to change several take names simultaneously. (event property)
Is there a way to achieve this? If I select many events and right-click, the properties option is dimmed/disabled.

July 20, 2012 at 8:05 pmI don’t believe so, Gilles.
When you rename an event or take (still an event), it goes all the way down into Windows filesystem.
You can’t rename multiple files, as far as I know, in native Windows, unless you have some special program.
Cheers for now,

July 20, 2012 at 8:15 pmHey Tom!
Let me clarify, I’m remaining events. Mnay events can be associated with a file. I don’t think the event name goes down to the file system. I could be wrong.
I’m wanting to change the names of the events as seen when one CTRL/SHIFT/I..I looked at my Ultimate S, hoping to find something there… not that I can see.

July 21, 2012 at 2:17 amThe event name is in the veg file. I can’t think of any way to easily change them. I don’t normally use takes anyway. I just find it so much easier to add new tracks instead of takes. I do use takes when recording multiple tracks of audio, but I just keep them as “Take 1, Take 2, etc…”

July 21, 2012 at 11:47 amHi Stephen,
I thought that’s where they lived. Makes sense.I use them extensively when I’m editing a video with lots of footage, it helps me to quickly find certain clips/events. (with the names displayed on the timeline) Sort of part of the logging.
Since they’re part of the veg file I was hoping perhaps Ultimate had a script for renaming selected events, the way it allows me to to normalize selected audio events.

July 22, 2012 at 3:14 amThe only way I know how to “mass edit” the Active Take Names is to use Edit Details and Excel.
1. View, Edit Details (Show Events)
2. Select all (topmost, leftmost cell)
3. Copy
4. Excel, Paste (note: row 1 will the column headers)
5. edit the Active Take Name cells
6. Select the Active Take Name cells (safest way is to select them all except for row 1, the column headers)
7. Copy
8. Vegas … Edit Details, select the topmost Active Take Name cell
9. PasteKinda funky but you can “mass change” a bunch of Active Take Name values.

July 30, 2012 at 2:06 pmThanks Tyson,
Yes this would work but a bit too convoluted for what I need it for.
Perhaps a new version of Vegas will offer this feature. Thanks for this workaround though.
