I have shot video with a Sony HX1 camera, and below is the info on the video clip. If I want to render this and not lose any quality, which template would i use in Vegas 11 Pro? and what render settings in that template should be adjusted?

I will be playing this off hardrive so i’m not looking to burn to dvd or bluray, i want to leave it in original format if possible and just play it off hardrive… reason why i want to render is that i will be editing a bunch of these clips, this one clip is an example of the video footage this camera shots in.

Using AVC you will lose quality in any case.
But if you will choose the highest bitrates, you’ll have the semblance of the original quality.

If you have enough space, use lossless sony YUV instead of avc.

I render shows we do for PBS in the Sony MXF format. Very high quality.
A great player to use to view them is the free Sony XDcam viewer.

I would just render back to the original AVC format. Use the Sony AVC encoder with the AVCHD 1440×1080-60i template. This template matches your original format very closely (in fact it has a higher bit-rate so it should hold up very well)

thanks John, that is what i will do! can you explain why i would choose the 60i template? does this relate to the 29.970fps my source files are in at all? i see the 50i template too, what’s the difference basically from 50i-60i?

think i got the answer to my own question 50i = PAL and 60i=NTSC cool thanks again!

[Joe Tavola] “think i got the answer to my own question 50i = PAL and 60i=NTSC cool thanks again!”

Yes, 29.97 frames per second equals 59.940 fields per second which is commonly abbreviated as 60i (~60 interlaced fields).

[Joe Tavola] “my source files say progressive (mediainfo), is the 60i (interlaced)? would i not want them to stay at progressive, if so what should i choose when rendering in that template?”

Sorry I didn’t catch that your video was progressive (it says so right in your original post). You should definitely change your project and the render template to be progressive as well.
