You’re pretty much stuck with it but there is one plugin that does an excellent job in eliminating such things. It’s called iZotope denoiser. I use it quite a bit to get rid of background noise. You sample a portion of the audio that has just the noise you want to eliminate and it does a pretty good job. Applying too much will cut into other parts of your audio however.
    It’s quite expensive though.

Perfect recommendation Roger. That is the holy grail
of audio noise reduction (Izotope RX), and only what
i use and pulls thru every time.
    Expensive however for the hobbyist.

Paul, you could further mask the wind roar with a music track (after you have applied the denoiser) played at a low volume.

Audacity is a free stand alone program that I have had great success with. It also samples a section of the noise and creates a profile. There is an excellent tutorial on YouTube that I cannot recall where at this moment. It may be worth a look.

Or Sony’s own Noise Reduction plugin, thats a bit
    more affordable.

It is possible to use audacity to cancel out the roar by applying the opposite waveform, but it can affect speech and give the sound a tinny feel.
