February 15, 2012 at 8:22 amYou’re pretty much stuck with it but there is one plugin that does an excellent job in eliminating such things. It’s called iZotope denoiser. I use it quite a bit to get rid of background noise. You sample a portion of the audio that has just the noise you want to eliminate and it does a pretty good job. Applying too much will cut into other parts of your audio however.
It’s quite expensive though. -

of audio noise reduction (Izotope RX), and only what
i use and pulls thru every time.
Expensive however for the hobbyist.Steve Rhoden

February 15, 2012 at 11:32 amPaul, you could further mask the wind roar with a music track (after you have applied the denoiser) played at a low volume.

February 17, 2012 at 12:31 amAudacity is a free stand alone program that I have had great success with. It also samples a section of the noise and creates a profile. There is an excellent tutorial on YouTube that I cannot recall where at this moment. It may be worth a look.

February 18, 2012 at 12:56 amIt is possible to use audacity to cancel out the roar by applying the opposite waveform, but it can affect speech and give the sound a tinny feel.
