Huge mistake. I decided to start my last project on the latest upgrade from Sony. Vegas Pro 11. Editing three camera event.Timeline seemed to function normally and preview was as quick as Pro 10, not faster. Footage was shot at 1080 24P. Project properties was set up based on a clip from the project. I went to render a DVDA WS NTSC stream with audio at 29.97. Started render, after 12 hrs. 10% was completed. Stopped the render to look for a problem. Tried to launch the project with Vegas 10, no luck. Decided to render another MPEG DVDA 1080 P at 24P to see better performance, no luck. Right now the project is 92% done, elapsed time 26 hrs, with 2 hrs to go. WTF!

Here’s a bit of trivia for you, elapsed time resets to zero after 24 hrs.

My computer: i7 2600K CPU, 16 GB ram, Nvidia Gforce 465 card. Rendering to a separate HD 1 TB. EFX in project New Blue and Sapphire edge. I have been a vegas user since Sonic Foundry. So I have a bit of experience with this stuff.

My question. Is there a good resource for setting up Vegas 11 regarding project properties, rendering scenarios, computer issues etc. I am very disappointed in this software. I should have known better to start a project on the new release. I wanted to take advantage of the sale knowing i would upgrade based on previous upgrades. Be warned my fellow editors so you don’t disappoint your clients as I have done today.

That is bizarrely excessive. What is the codec you’re editing?

I have a similar computer. I am rendering 3 cam projects at about .75 of real-time. That’s about 40 times faster. Have you installed a codec pack or something? Is this computer dedicated to video? I couldn’t be more pleased with version 11. How could it be?

[Scott Gifford] “Here’s a bit of trivia for you, elapsed time resets to zero after 24 hrs.”

The timer rollover is a known issue, but nothing is effected and very few people ever see “Render As” take over 24-hours. (You are only the second person I’ve heard of seeing it).

However, your system is very similar to mine – right down to the external 1Tb project drive on USB3. Something is wrong here. I enjoy watching my faster-than-real-time encodes and you should be, too.

New Blue and Sapphire edge FX will cause every pixel on every frame to be recomposited and slow your encode – but still, something is wrong here.

    Try turning GPU support off.
What is your preview RAM set to?

I used Vegas 11 and in my case rendering was not an issue but by using the New Blue text editor, my preview slowed to a crawl where it was almost impossible to view.
    Anyone else had this issue?

My preview ram was automatically set to all the ram available. I did not remember to change this to around 75% of available. I am hoping this is the reason. I will try again today.

What percent of ram do you set?

I had a similar issue, only with Vegas text editor. I put in a simple date after my new blue animated title. When I started the render the computer stopped when the Vegas text was about to appaer. I suspect something is wrong with the reg text editor. I deleted the title and started a new render. Computer didn’t stop, however it took 29 hrs to finish.

[Scott Gifford] “My preview ram was automatically set to all the ram available.”

HOLY COW! (ironic metaphor here, isn’t it?)

Preview RAM is unavailable to the render-as processes. Jerry (on the Sony forum) did some tests recently trying to uncover some of the Preview RAM mystery. His results seem to have a sweet spot of 1Gb of preview RAM.

So Stephen, what you are saying is, all my ram was allocated to the preview ram, there was no ram left to do the render. Is this correct?

    That’s what it’s acting like.
When you go into Options/Preferences/Video – what is your preview RAM and available Preview Ram say?
