Stabilization in Veags 10 vs Vegas 11
Posted by Brad Miller on October 23, 2011 at 6:16 pmI recently upgraded from Vegas 10 to Vegas 11…
The stabilization in Vegas 11 takes more than double the time to stabilize a clip. Anyone else have this problem? A 6 minute clip is taking over half an hour, where the exact same clip took 10 minutes in Vegas 11.
It’s so bad that I’ve gone back to using Vegas 10 for my current project.

October 24, 2011 at 10:31 pmI’m going to try bumping this… Has anyone else used the stablization in Vegas 11? I’ve gone back to using Vegas 10 for now.

October 24, 2011 at 11:25 pmI have gone from Vegas 9 to 11, so I can’t comment on the difference between 10 and 11. However I will tell you that I haven’t been able to get stabilization to work for me AT ALL in Vegas 11. And there has been very little input from the forum on this new version.
I’m working with Vegas 9 now until the update comes out.

October 25, 2011 at 2:40 amYou have to apply it in the Media FX dropdown, not the Video FX for some reason in Vegas 11.
In Veags 10, you just went to Tools -> Video -> Stablize Media. Then you could turn the stabilization on and off as by changing the take. With Vegas 11, I don’t know how you can turn the stabilization off, since it appears to overwrite the original clip.

October 25, 2011 at 5:56 amThanks Brad. I’m a pedantic sort of chap and try to follow all instructions for these things. Did that with Stabilize and as you mentioned I did go through the Media FX drop down. Zero I’m afraid. Maybe I’ll try a re-installation.

October 28, 2011 at 3:31 amI could not get VP11 stabilizer working on the timeline, only if I selected a clip and opened another instance of VP, so I downloaded virtualdub and deshaker and am experimenting with them. On my first test deshaker worked much better than VP11 stabilizer, now to experiment more. Getting the codec’s running was a bit of a chore with virtualdub, but now it’s working well.
Why Sony can’t incorporate a plug-in that works as well or better than FREEWARE is beyond me.

October 28, 2011 at 6:22 amHi Malcolm,
Thanks for your input. I still haven’t managed to get the Vegas stabiliser to work, so I gave your solution a try. The only problem is that Virtual Dub doesn’t recognise mxf files or the files that come from my EX1. Any suggestions?
I agree it’s bizarre that a company like Sony can’t provide a quality and functioning stabiliser for Vegas. I would have thought it would be a natural addition to the software.

October 28, 2011 at 12:50 pmIn Pro 11, right-click the event, choose “Make Subclip” and apply stabilization to the subclip.

October 29, 2011 at 1:10 amI gave up on Vegas 11 and I’m just going to continue using Vegas 10. The stabilization is much better in 10 and takes half the amount of time as 11, never mind half the amount of keystrokes, as well.

October 29, 2011 at 5:24 pmmp4cam2avi freeware conversion I used to “rewrap?” mp4 clips to avi so that virtualdub can work with the clips. All of the codecs are a bit confusing I have to read more about them. I just hope I’m not “down sampling” my footage!
