I might be wrong, but I though that with Vegas 10, it had to be a CUDA GPU enabled graphics cards. But looking at
    https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegaspro/gpuacceleration
it seems than any OpenCL graphics card will do.

I currently have Vegas Pro 10e and am ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Series and I’m not sure if this card will work well if I upgrade to 11. When I render to Sony AVC codec, the option is there to encode with GPU if available, but it doesn’t seem to do much or speed anything up.

My budget is pretty tight – I’m OK with £100-£120 on a new card purely to speed up rendering, but £280 for the Geforce GTX 570 and similar suggested cards are pushing things a bit.

If anyone’s got any budget suggestions for Vegas Pro 10 (or 11) GPU cards, I’m all eyes and ears. I’d rather upgrade to 11 and be able to take advantage of a wider range of cards, than splurge a load of cash on a CUDA card and have to stick with 10 because the budget’s been blown. Thanks!

(PS – if it was compatible with those alien-seeking/disease-curing grid computing projects that would be even better!)

I got 11 and was using a Radeon 6870, which should work, yet Vegas didn’t show any GPU acceleration with it, and I couldn’t turn it on with it. Last night I got a GeForce GTS 450 for $100 and Vegas now says GPU acceleration is on, but I haven’t noticed any improvement in performance. In fact, multicamera editing and adding 3D text still makes preview playback look awful. It’s probably playing back at around 10 frames per second.

    Hi,

    @Jonathan:

I have made some experiments by developing GPU-accelerated versions of my White Balance and Exposure plug-ins, and did several benchmarks.

One of the benchmarks was comparing a GTX460 GPU with an i7/950 CPU, and the plug-ins computing times are about 10 times faster with GTX460…
(And by the way, I bought this card 1 year ago to benefit from Vegas Pro 10 GPU acceleration, but could not see any acceleration).

Although Vegas 11 relies on OpenCL, while my plugins rely on Cuda (meaning the performance improvements might be slightly different), I would definitely recommend a GTX 460, as it’s a good trade off between price and performance for this kind of computation.

My 2 cents, hope this helps,
    Frédéric

I might have misunderstood, but I thought that only GTX is supported, not GTS, see here : https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegaspro/gpuacceleration

    “GPU-accelerated AVC rendering
NVIDIA: GPU-accelerated AVC rendering requires a CUDA-enabled GPU and NVIDIA driver 270.xx or later with a GeForce GTX 4xx Series or newer GPU.

ATI: OpenCL GPU-accelerated rendering requires an OpenCL-enabled ATI GPU and AMD Radeon Catalyst driver 11.7 or later with an AMD Radeon HD 57xx or newer GPU. AMD FirePro GPU should have 8.85 or newer.”

Stuck myself with a AMD Radeon HD 5680, so pissed off…
