  • Proper render settings for Youtube.

Alright, so here’s the deal. I make Let’s Plays, right? And to render the raw footage i get from Fraps, i put them together inside of Vegas and then render them. However, i want them to render faster, since each 20-minute video takes about 2 hours on my computer. This is at 720p (1280×720), and i feel that those settings are a little unnecessary for rendering video games.

So i was wondering if anyone had settings to render a video at 360p-480p, and also fit the Youtube play perfectly. I have made some tries before, and *almost* made it (as can be seen in this test video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HaITnCbsGw ), however, i’m not satisfied since i get these itsy-bitsy black bars at the top and bottom, and being the perfectionist i am, i can’t take it. So please, if someone has any ideas or tips, please share them here. I have been looking all over the Internet for about half a year now.

If you have Vegas Pro, then try Video4YouTube. It’s free.

I tried that, but all i’m getting is a “Could not connect to server” error. Guess i could use it, just for the settings.

Start with one of the Internet presets (eg Internet 360-30p 16:9 for widescreen) as your project format, and render using the corresponding Internet preset with the Sony AVC codec. This will give you an MP4 file suitable for Youtube etc.

If you have itsy bitsy black bars, add yt:stretch=16:9 to your tags and it’ll expand to fill the missing bitsies.

    I feel like Gollum.

If you’re not into that, you can always render any resolution that is 16:9.
