Okay, so… the other day I had downloaded K-Lite Codec Pack 64-bit… It worked, but then I had troubles with downloading the AVI files i wanted, they just stopped working, At first i thought that my computer was being stupid, but then i recalled a virus i got that was semi-similar. So I unistalled the codec, since that was the most recent reason i could find that it woudl be doing that… It worked, i mean after that i was able to download the AVI files fine. However, I’ve reinstalled it, and now the AVI files decided to stop working on me in windows. I know the codec need to make the AVI files work, is H.264… but everytime i tried getting those to install as soon as i hit the Run button a rectangular box appeared in the top left of the screen and dissappeared before i could see what it was. So I thought maybe it was another virus, but when I scanned the computer it found a virus to a temporary internet file that i deleted, and i’d had the file for longer then a year. It still didn’t work. So maybe it’s not a virus? I also recently discovered it works in Soy Vegas… without audio, which is fine with me… only the quality of the video isn’t the same as on WMM… Any solutions to that, i had the same problem with the codec on SV before i unistalled the codec, and it worked perfectly fine on WMM. I would love for somebody to help me, my main goal is for it to work in HQ, and not be in pixelate. Any suggestions?

Never, ever, NEVER install the K-Lite (or any other) codec pak. It is a sure way to mess up your computer. Just install the few codecs that you need fro the AVI files you are using. Use GSpot to determine which codecs you need and then get them from a reputable source (like the manufacturer).

This K-Lite Codec Pak should never be installed on any computer……(As John recommend), Get your codecs from a reputable source.

Will my computer be okay if i uninstall it completely. Where would i find the codecs alone, I need H.264 and DIVX… Is there a site where you can find different codecs for free… Could that also be a reason, why my internet’s acting funky. I mean YouTube and Yahoo, two of my most visited sites started not loading yesterday. My internets had problems like this before. I mean It’s always picked and choosed sites for no reason. I always thought of that as a different story.
I need a way to get the codecs from the internet… for free… and for 64-bit.

Your computer should be just what it was after the removal.
With that said, if you need specific CODECs, you should install just those.
If you have any Blu-Ray player software, many camcorder support packages, Adobe Flash, even some Web browsers, you may already have an AVC CODEC installed. The question to ask… your AVC video originates from somewhere. Unless you’re just grabbing pirated video off the web, there’s some help from the provider of that video. Apple’s Quicktime can play most AVC formats.. you can get the free download here (it’s a little annoying, and huge, but it’s also pretty stand-alone, it doesn’t mess with other functions in the system): https://www.apple.com/quicktime
If you’re just looking for playback, you can try a couple players. The best quality, and some of the lowest CPU overhead I’ve seen on a PC/Windows system is from Splash Lite: https://mirillis.com/en/products/splash.html
Another option is the VLC Media Player. This actually contains some of the same open source software that went into K-Lite, but it’s all self-contained… these don’t get installed at the system level, so they don’t muck up other programs with questionable CODECs. That’s not to knock all open source CODECs; I have used some of these same bits of code in video servers I’ve integrated for industrial use. But there is some junk out there, too. VLC isn’t terribly efficient at playback, the price is right: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/
DivX, Inc. is responsible for the various DivX formats. They have free CODECs for playback, which you can find here: https://www.divx.com/en/software/divx-plus/codec-pack
None of these necessarily let you create videos, but they will help you play things back.

Thanks, I’m looking for something i can edit, and playback of course. You have helped a lot, I’m going to check to see what works.

I’ve downloaded the DivX one before. I also uninstalled it at the same time i uninstalled the K-Lite Codec Pack the first time. Is it possible that that’s the reason my files were working. The reason i uninstalled them both was because i had installed them both around the same time, and shortly after i was having problems. So i uninstalled them to make sure that the problem was fixed. It was.
Out of the list the only one i haven’t tried is the Splash Lite one, the rest havan’t worked. The codecs i need were still read as not installed. -

Which codec is that? I’m guessing that you have AVI files with h.264 in them? If so, try the x264vfw codec. If they have DivX in them, then you must install the DivX codec.

Now, I installed DivX, it’s a codec pack, but it’s from the link that Dave Haynie gave me. Since, I’ve downloaded that, it works on Sony Vegas, I’d love to use Sony Vegas, but everytime I open the file, it’s in pixelate… Is there any possible way to fix that??? I want it in High Quality, and not in pixelate.

When you drop the files into GSpot does it say that they are DivX files?
What do you have your video preview quality set to?
What are your project dimensions?
What are the files dimensions?
