Alpha channel and FLV
Posted by James Ledford on April 10, 2009 at 8:37 amI have rendered a logo from C4D with all the goodies. Then imported the logo into AFcs4. All the goodies work, however when i render a FLV file, no alpha. The final logo is to be passed on for use in Dreamweaver with a transparent background. I have looked throught the tutorials and forms, what am i missing?
Thanks

April 10, 2009 at 2:41 pmHave you tried going to “Format Options” after you’ve selected FLV from the dropdown menu in the output module? Inside “Format Options” is a checkbox with an option to encode the alpha channel (under Basic Video Options)
After you’ve checked the box, make sure that you have “RGB + Alpha” selected in your channels under the video output.
Hope this helps. -

April 10, 2009 at 4:38 pmThe FLV codec also needs to be OnVP6 to include an Alpha channel.

April 10, 2009 at 7:42 pmyes, i have the output set to 32 bit, using the on2 vp6, encode alpha, vbr two pass, key frame set to 15.
In ae, the mask file is on top of the logo, the logo is the parent, and the mask is set to luma. The mask works in ae, i can change the bg. ect. The flash file when imported into either primere or flash does not have an alpha.
thank you for the responses.

April 10, 2009 at 9:29 pmDid you render premultiplied before and are just now testing straight alpha=(color – straight unmatted)?

April 10, 2009 at 9:39 pmyes, i have just finished a test in flash. still no alpha channel. when i inport into flash i import video with an external player no skin. place a solid bg (differnt color from ae render).
i changed the mask in ae from lumin to alpha thinking that was the issue but still no luck.
does anyone know of a tutorial on this topic. i know i am missing somthing, just too new to ae, flash and dreamweaver to figure it out.
thanks

April 10, 2009 at 10:17 pmuse the separate adobe media encoder and edit export settings -“encode alpha channel”. bam! AE now has RGB+alpha.

April 13, 2009 at 4:15 pmThanks for the help. I still am unable to get this to work. I used media encoder cs4, loaded in an ae project and encoded a flv file with an alpha, imported into flash with the same results.
thanks
James

April 13, 2009 at 10:41 pmThere is something wrong I think, but in the meantime, export out full uncompressed using this guideline and import directly into flash as a workaround until you get this resolved.
