  • AC3 Audio Tweak for Vegas Pro 9 (different than 8)

    I’ve been using Vegas Pro 8c for some time and just upgraded to Pro 9. I’ve used the following audio tweak for AC3 in Pro 8:

    Encode set to AC3;
    Click on custom tab;
    Dialog normalization: -31 dB;
    Dynamic range compression: None;
    On the first tab set diag. norm to “-31”;
    On the last tab marked preprocessing;
    Set the Line Mode & RF mode profiles to “None”;
    Now save this as a preset.

    However, when trying to set up the same tweak on Pro 9, those same options don’t seem to exist. So is the default in Pro 9 basically the same as the above tweaked Pro 8 changes (which I’d like to keep)? Or if not, how do you tweak Pro 9 to be the same?

    I just set my dialog normalization to -30dB on the Audio Service tab and set the set the Line Mode & RF mode profiles to “None” on the Prepossessing tab and it seems to sound good. I find that -31dB to be a bit too loud but those are the only two you can change.

    Thanks, John. Still trying to used to Pro 9, but it’s nice that there isn’t a whole lot to learn different from Pro 8. Also, it’s nice now to be able to just drop those iTunes downloads on a timeline and convert to mp3 or whatever, rather than having to convert via Quicktime like I had to with Pro 8.
