  • MP4 settings dependent from the PC where a project is rendered?

Posted by Frederic Baumann on August 4, 2010 at 7:16 pm

    Hi,

I am faced to a strange thing: I have Vegas Movie Studio Platinum HD 10 installed on 2 PCs.

I am opening exactly the same .vf project on both PC, to render it in the standard MP4 default template, but the results are completely different:
one of the MP4 files is about 10 times bigger, and much better in terms of quality than the other one.

I used MediaInfo to view the settings of both MP4 files, you can find below the details of each.

My question is: do you know why the settings are different, and how to change them? (the advanced settings in Vegas allow me to change the bit rate, but not settings
like the format profile or the GOP stuff. So I guess there is another place to tune this.

    Many thanks for your help!!
    Frederic

to render it in the standard MP4 default template

This is an unfortunate misconception. There is no “default” template. There is a template that defaults to something, but as you’ve seen, it may not default to the same thing on two different PC’s. ALWAYS select a template other than default when rendering. Select the same template on both PC’s and you will get the same results.

    Thanks John.

Then I will create my own template with the bitrate I want to have and the resolution I want to have.

Still, I don’t understand how I managed to get 2 different “format profile” (High@L4.0 and Main@L3.1) while the option is not available in Vegas.
Anyway I don’t know what it stands for, so I can live without knowing. But in the event you could explain this as well, I would feel happier 🙂

Thanks again anyway, one more time I learnt something thanks to your answers!

These are just different profiles for AVC. The Main profile is for SD and High is for HD. I dont’ know why Vegas picked one over the other given the same project.

Thanks John. I am actually happy – I created my own 8Mbits/sec profile and it seems to work fine.

Great. I’m glad that worked out for you.
