  Video Rendering

  New to sony vegas and need rendering help

  I think I have a bad codec or something going on. My renders have slowed to a crawl. A 1 minute test render takes 12 minutes to render. Importing video as avi and need to find quicker renders for now. Can’t afford new computer yet, but need about a 3- 1 render time for dvds for clients.

  I am using sony vegas 7d. I have a single processor pentium (yes I know its slow, but it used to render 3 minutes per minute of video). I formatted main hard drive, 250 meg. Putting windows xppro on 95gig partition, 140 gig for programs. Have a terrabyte hd for storage. Do I need different codecs.

  How do you check the codec on the input avi video?

  I see two immediate problems with your project properties:

  field format lower field first
  de-interlace: none

  If your field format is interlaced you should not have your deinterlace set to none. It should be set to Blend Fields which is the default unless there is a compelling reason to set it to Interpolate Fields.

  full resolution rendering: best

  This is guaranteed to slow down rendering and is only needed if you are resizing high resolution stills and are having quality problems. The default setting of “Good” is more than adequate for DV video work.

  How do you check the codec on the input avi video?

  Right-click on the video event on the timeline and select Properties | Media tab then look at the Video format.

  Based on the incorrect changes to the default properties in Vegas, you may have changed something that is causing this problem without knowing it. I would recommend reseting Vegas. To do this, start Vegas by holding down the SHIFT key while you double-click on the icon. This will reset all of your preferences and make Vegas the same as the first day you installed it. You will loose any customization you have done to the preferences but you may also loose your problem so it might be worth a try.
