What do we mean by Cinematic – Colour Theory in DaVinci Resolve

With over three years of experience as a professional trainer, one of the main questions I get asked is: “How do I make something look cinematic?”

To which I usually reply: “How do you define cinematic?”

Not surprisingly, the answer might differ, depending on who you ask. Does it have to do with the framing? Or with the lens choice? With how do you set the lights? Does colour grading have an impact on that or is it just secondary?

As the next part of the series, this is what I want to focus on: what is it that we perceive as cinematic? Why do we strive for that and how do we achieve the cinematic look?
