Virtual Music Performance Experience The Chitlin Circuit Shot with Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pros
Blackmagic Design today announced that season two of virtual music performance experience The Chitlin Circuit was captured in Blackmagic RAW with Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro digital film cameras by DP Slim Moses. Using DaVinci Resolve Studio, the series was also edited by Omoregbe Omede and graded by Vafomba Donzo.
Created by multimedia female artist Tiayrra Bradley, who also serves as director and executive producer, The Chitlin Circuit is a modern twist to a historic legacy of highlighting emerging black artists in jazz, blues, alternative, R&B, hip hop and additional genres. Sourced through artist submissions, the performances are hosted on Instagram and YouTube.
“Our mission is to amplify black voices in the music space that are empowering, encouraging and engaging,” explained Bradley. “Not only are we creating media representation for black music artists to be seen, heard and educated within the music industry, but we are also creating opportunities for artists of color behind the camera in the areas of videography, photography, audio engineering, stage design, lighting, etc.”
Having used Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K digital film cameras on season one, Bradley wanted to upgrade the workflow for season two. “We were introduced to Blackmagic Design’s Pocket cameras through fellow collaborator and filmmaker Christina Faith of Creative Thought Media,” she said. “We used her Pocket Cinema Camera 4Ks to film 24 episodes for our first season and loved the quality of the footage.”
“Going into the second season, we wanted to retain the cameras’ great low light performance but wanted a little more resolution, so we went with the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro,” added Bradley. “We design our light to be moody to match the energy of the music, and having a camera with a larger sensor allowed us more room to play with the lights for the next round of performances.”

The Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro’s dual native ISO came in particularly useful for silhouette shots of the artists singing acapella. “We use this content primarily for Instagram reels, and to create a unique look for it, we used just one light, which created a very limited low light setting. The Pocket’s dual native ISO let us film at an ISO between 1,250 and 3,200 while still being able to capture the highlights and shadows of our image and maintain great quality with less noise,” noted Bradley.
According to Bradley, The Chitlin Circuit is not only telling a story through sound but also through color. “Filming in Blackmagic RAW with the cameras’ Blackmagic Generation 5 Color Science gave our colorist more freedom in DaVinci Resolve Studio and took the color grading design of the performances to the next level for our production,” she added. “We were able to directly upload our videos to our YouTube account via DaVinci’s export settings and still keep all of our custom settings, which was great.”
