RePro launches Pulsar, a hardware-free desktop encoder for film and TV workflows
Pulsar is a software encoder for live streaming collaboration across multiple teams, from on-set to editorial and beyond.
RePro Stream today announced Pulsar, a desktop-based live streaming encoder that replaces dedicated hardware with software.
Designed to serve multiple departments, from on-set video teams to editorial, Pulsar runs on Mac and Windows, with Linux coming soon. Included with a RePro subscription, Pulsar allows crews to stream up to four live video feeds from a single machine into the RePro platform without dedicated encoding hardware.
By moving encoding into software, this approach reduces the cost, setup time, and operational overhead typically associated with live streaming on film and television productions. The initial release supports SDR, 8-bit workflows and is designed to replace hardware encoders immediately. Support for higher bit depths and HDR is planned for an upcoming release.
For video operators, Pulsar offers a simpler alternative to traditional on-set streaming setups. Multiple QTAKE outputs can be sent directly into RePro using a single internet connection and a destination URL, with no additional boxes, rentals, or shipping. Pulsar also supports ultra-low-latency streaming over local networks, allowing on-set teams to view live feeds in the RePro app with minimal delay.
For editorial teams, RePro’s software encoder makes it easier to bring creative stakeholders into sessions in real time. For teams using tools such as Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve, this solution enables live streaming of program output and interface views when needed, without relying on dedicated hardware encoders or complex facility deployments.
For post facilities, Pulsar offers a foundation for more consistent remote review workflows across multiple rooms, with additional post-focused capabilities planned for future releases.
