Upon your recommendation, I updated the firmware but still no luck. I ended up sending the camera in to panasonic. Crossing my fingers that it is nothing too major.thanks for your help! I did learn how to update the firmware which is good!

Hi, I don’t have my camera in front of me, but you can go into the camera menu and where the setting is for 1394 (firewire) to mount the disk, you can change that setting to USB.
If you can’t find it let me know and when I get home from work I will look at my camera!

Hey, since I got your guys attention, is USB way faster?
Normally with Firewire (connected to my external via my camera) it takes almost an hour to download one 32 gig card.
With USB I downloaded 28 gigs in about 20 minutes. I had the USB going from my camera to my computer and depositing data onto my g-raid. Seemed way faster than firewire.thanks
