Okay, I was able to create the effect I wanted; but I had to use the masking feature within After Effects to do it. The final effect can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xu7gOMSLbi8

While I’m happy with the results (which I could not have done without Particle Illusion) I would still like to know how to get this done using the PI software itself as I suspect it would be a lot easier to accomplish. Never the less, this has demonstrated the value of purchasing the PI software which I will do before the trail elapses.
