I have that on mine as well. I believe that it is due to VLC media player being installed. That Is the icon for that program. It looks like AE uses the system icons for media,

Without seeing your comp I can’t know for sure. My best guess would be that your work area is shorter that 2 frames. Go to the pont in your timeline that you want the preview to start and press “b” then go to the point where you want it to end and press “n”. This will set your in and out points. If this was your issue the it will fix your problem.

You can copy a mask path in the shape of the circle and paste it in the position of your text. This will create key frames in the shape of a circle. The text will follow the circle based on where the anchor point is in the text layer.

I think that the easiest way to do this would be to use particular. You could animate the path of the emitter and then set the particles per second to your frame rate. Then adjust your size over life and the life span of the particles to get the look your are trying to achieve.

What Joey recommended is very cool, I’ve never played around with that before. You learn something new everyday. The only trouble I see with that is that the text will always be visible. The question to me is why can’t you just use multiple masks on your text layer? You would still be able to animate each mask independently. Are you trying to cut holes in all of the layers above the text?

It looks like you could dupe the title comp in the main comp(timeline) to get your camera moves. In an effort for this easier to follow I’ll call this “Main” Then go up to the project files and dupe a title comp there. I’ll call this “Title6”. Next click on “Main” in your timeline. Then click on “Title6” up in your project files. You then hold down alt and drag “Title6” down on top of “Main” This should replace “Main” in your timeline with “Title6” you can now open “Title6” and change it to whatever you want and it will still have the camera moves that you want. I hope makes some sense. I’m a little long winded. Good Luck.

You can select based on “characters excluding spaces” under the advanced roll down for all three variables (cursor, Cursor Blink and Reveal)
This will keep a ? on screen at all times but it will jump the spaces.

The only time I’ve seen it not give me a mask mode is when the mask is not closed. I can’t tell from the screen grab if this is the issue you are having but it might be worth checking.
