I seem to recall that the error window telling you to allocate more memory mistakenly came across in the port from v7.5 to v8. You just can’t allocate more memory manually in OS X. The OS doles it out as needed.
Other concerns are:
1. Be sure that you are using 8.2.3a, available at the bottom of the list here: https://media100.com/support/downloads.phpWhen the app is installed, it reports slightly different depending on where you look. If you “get info” on the application file itself, it will report as 8.2.3a there.
2. We never officially tested this beyond OS 10.4.3 (or maybe 10.4.4) but (anecdotally) it seems to work okay all the way up to OS 10.4.11.
3. QuickTime is the other big concern. You definitely want to stay away from QT 7.5.5 (see threads below) but also be careful about going any higher than QT 7.3 (again, not tested, you’re on your own).
4. What are you using for media drives? Many external drive configurations did not transfer gracefully from OS 9 to OS X. If you haven’t already, try a new test project using the internal drive(s) only.
Let us know how it goes,

•What codec(s) are you using?
•HD or SD?
•Anything else you can think of?

Nice one Chris!
Reminds me of when I was teaching Video Production in a high school with a cobbled together M100 v4.5 system on a used Mac 9600 with a whopping 4.5 GB drive array ($2000 for that array!).
We had a music library on CD and had discovered that some CDs would import into M100 and some would not. No rhyme or reason, but when you found a CD that wouldn’t import, you had to give up on it ’cause it was NEVER going to import.
So one day I’m reviewing one of the student’s work and he’s got one of the “unusable” audio tracks in his timeline.
“How’d you get that to work?”, I asked him.
He looks at me as nonchalantly as possible and says, “I brought the CD player over from the other edit bay and just digitized it.”
“You clever little…”, I thought and walked away with a valuable question that I try to approach every problem with…“Do you need this to work or do you need it work the way it’s supposed to work?”.

Vegar,
A bunch of questions that may point to the problem…
– Is the DVCPROHDCodec.component located at MacHD>Library>QuickTime? Probably, because you can play them in QT Player.
– What versions of software are you using? MacOS? M100? QT? DVCPROHDcodec.component?
– Are you using the “Import Panasonic P2” choice in the Media 100 File Menu?
– Are the files DEFINITELY 1080i?
– What is the Frame Rate?

Hi Jaeson,
What model of Sony HDV deck are you using? I just want to know so we can gather as much info as possible.
Also, you’re right, a “Try again X number of times” option would be cool.

Okay, I just tried a few things in v12.7.1. This might work for you.
I’m going to be honest here and tell you I’m not sure that all of the features are in v11.5 the way I’m about to describe them to you. Your mileage may vary.
– With your HD program open, go to the “Media” menu and choose “Conform Program…”
– In the “Conform” window, set “New Standard” to “SD 4×3”
– In the bottom half of the “Conform” window you should have the option to choose “Crop”
– If you see a check box labeled “Make re-aquirable media offline (to re-acquire later)”, be sure it is UN-checked
– Click the “Conform” button
– When it’s done, you should have a new SD version of the timeline with the sides properly cropped
– You can now export THAT timeline and get what you wantLet us know if it works in v11.5

Andy,
Sorry to leave you hanging like that. Leaders and Trailers got left out of the app back when v10 was released. There’s a list of reasons why, some legitimate, and some kind of lame. I hope to reintroduce something in a future release.
Until then, you’ve got some options. You can use the L&Ts from Media 100 i (if you’ve got an M100i CD) for standard def and/or you can create and use your own for HD.
Basically, the Leaders and Trailers feature works as follows. It can get wordy and confusing, so stick with me.
– Leaders and Trailers, as an application feature, only work via the “Master to Tape” choice from Media 100’s File Menu.
– There needs to be a folder called “Leaders and Trailers” in the Media 100 application folder.
– There needs to be at least one Program (timeline) in that folder that matches the standards and aspect ratio of the Program you are attempting to Master to Tape.
– There needs to be some media for that Program (the one in the “Leaders and Trailers” folder) to link to.
– When you choose “Master to Tape” from the file menu, the application looks for a folder called “Leaders and Trailers” inside the Media 100 folder inside “Applications”. If it finds the folder, it checks the standards and aspect ratio of the Program you are mastering and looks for any in the “Leaders and Trailers” folder that match. If a match is found, the matching Program(s) shows up as a choice in the Master to Tape window. You can actually put ANYTHING (even a show open or close) in the Leaders and Trailers folder.
It sounds convoluted but makes a lot of sense after walk through it once.
Don’t hesitate to ask more questions if you need to.

Hi Matt,
As of today, August 25, 2008 at 1:59pm, Media 100 v12.7.1 is officially okay with anything Apple’s Software Update has to offer. So yes, you can install 10.5.4.

Hmmm…
Looking back at it, the way I wrote that makes it seem like it caught us off guard and it’s a complete mess.
The fact is that we’ve been testing a “future version” of Media 100 with a Beta version of the new AJA driver for some time now. We’re quite happy with the way it’s going and have been anxiously awaiting the official release of the new driver. We will have something to say very soon about a release of our software that works with the new driver.

Oh yeah, we’re looking at it all right. It WILL NOT work with v12.7.1. I don’t mean won’t work correctly, I mean that Media 100 won’t recognize the driver and will tell you that you’re hardware is not installed so hold off on it for now.
