January 11, 2013 at 5:54 pm in reply to: Changing duration of multiple still images in FCP

Since this was helpful info to me, thought I’d add in my two cents to this thread, long after.
I was able to change the duration of a row of still images by selecting and right-clicking and changing the duration. FCP 7 changed the duration, but gave me the “bonk” sound as well, because I had a second row ABOVE the row of still images that had some titles (I had selected both rows). The duration of both rows was changed, but the top row was not “compressed” (moved left) with the first row, so the titles were shorter but were no longer in their desired locations. Simple fix, I just moved them to where they needed to go. 🙂

May 8, 2009 at 4:19 am in reply to: P2, Batch List Importing

    Hello Guy,

Did you ever by chance figure out any work-arounds for this manual process? We have a similar workflow with extensive interview materials which our clients and content experts mark up in an Excel document based on a window dub. We are using Firestore FS-5 units so our footage is already QT clips. We were also hoping to do the same as you are suggesting by importing a batch list from our clients which would reference the larger original clip and create subclips. Probably wishful thinking, but I wanted to check if you had figured out any other solution.

    Thanks!

Thanks so much for the input!

Sounds like we would be better off spending our budget on higher-end mics this year, and skip the mixer altogether for now (or always?), since we are able to route each mic to a separate channel and mix in post.

If we get better wireless lavs (Sennheiser or Lectronics – we agree that the Samson is crap), how much difference will the pre-amps/limiters that we’d get from a mixer make in overall quality? In other words, if we have good quality mics going to separate channels on our cameras, will using a mid-range mixer make a difference in sound quality? Obviously, high-end mixers with high-end mics and an experienced sound person is the ideal, but can’t do everything all at once, so i’m just trying to figure out where to put our money this year (budget of about $1500), and what to try to plan for in the budget for next year. And we want to learn more about audio, so we’d like to improve our skill set as well!

Are the Lectronics Series 100 lavs better quality than the Senn G series, in people’s experience? The Lectronics on the top-end of our budget range (we’d need to get two, of course), so we’d rather stay with getting two of the Senn G lavs if they are fairly close in quality to the Lectronics. As long as we stay away from Freq Blocks 27, 28, and 29, we’ll be OK, right?

Thanks again for the advice and assistance helping us learn more about good audio systems. We really want to improve that part of our work as much as possible!

  • Thanks, I’m familiar with the “other worlds” of Flash and Director, my question was directed specifically at using tools within DVDSP4, since this is a heavily video-based DVD, and we need it to play on regular DVD players as well (obviously, without access to the DVD-ROM features then). But thanks for your input, all “worlds” have their pros and cons and work-arounds!

Anyone else tried to do this in DVDSP4?

OK, thanks for the input. It seems to be working reasonably well to just jump to another menu, as you suggest, so we’ll go with that. Thank you!
