  • This is the best news I’ve heard all night. I think I’ll have another pint. Things really are easy “once you know how”. My suspicion all along was that it was really something very simple. One thing I’ve learned is that looking at screen shots often conveys the information you need to solve a problem in very unusual ways. I’m really glad that it’s finally working for you. As always, your suggestions and feedback are most welcomed.

    Graham,

Just got your post. Interesting thing is that your screen shot doesn’t resemble mine at all once the raw file is opened. Are you using Corel AfterShot Pro2 by chance? It has a black background like your screenshot and claims to be non-destructive which means you edit off a copy. Maybe! Maybe!

BTW. What are you doing up at 4AM? I know, this stuff is enough to keep one awake at night.

May 8, 2016 at 8:36 pm in reply to: Sony Vegas Pro 13 – video frame rate issues

The problem is that Vegas Pro and other high end editors expect constant frame rates for your video. Unfortunately, most cell phone video uses variable frame rate recording. A lot of game recording software does the same, resulting in similar problems within Vegas. The solution for video you’ve already recorded, is that you will have to re-render to a constant frame rate. You can use Handbrake (freeware), making sure that you select constant frame rate for your re-render. You’ll lose some quality, but it probably won’t be too noticeable.

Long term, you need to make sure that your cell phone is recording at a constant frame rate. There is an app for both iPhone and android devices which will enable you to do just this. The name is FiLMiC Pro–it’s only about $10 but well worth it to avoid this problem. Personally, I’ve never used it (I don’t record cell phone video.), but it comes highly recommended. Good luck.

I cannot find a reference to Auto Preserve in X8. Are you using X6 by chance? Also, do you have PSP set to edit a “copy” of the original file? I can’t find that option either in X8, but some editors permit this which may explain the addition of the -1. Very confusing.

So, you’re not getting that extra -1 ?

No. I’ve never seen that before. I think you are using Auto Preserve, whatever that is. Try turning it off and see what happens. I’ve never used X8 before, so I have no idea, and hopefully, after your problem is solved–never again. I still have 13 days left on the trial. I’ll dig around a bit to see if I can get it replicate your problem.

    Graham,
I think you’ve solved your problem. For some reason, Corel is adding that -1 suffix and since the file names do not match exactly, there is an error. Also make doubly sure that the saved file is in the same folder as the original file. If not, that same error message will occur.

As promised, here is a short demo using a Canon raw file that I downloaded from the web.

we’re potting-out hot red geraniums & trailing white lobelia today

Good choice. One of my favorite combinations for our front window boxes.

Should I NEED to restart my PC or VP13?

At a minimum, restart Vegas and just drag a couple of images onto the timeline for testing. I restart my PC daily and during the debug of the scripts, you must close and restart Vegas. I have noticed that if you get this error message, it can persist, even though you’ve corrected your error. I have no idea why. Just try it.

Just to make sure, the exact filename for that image is IMG_5169.CR2? Correct? If so, the first take for that image would be IMG_5169-Take 01.PNG. That -1 on the end. Is that something that Corel does with something called auto preserve?

    This is truly a mystery.

Finally, it’s working properly without the renaming of the original file. Just download the revised script from the original location. So if you want to re-edit from the original raw, just go to Take 1 and run the script again. If you are still having problems, let me know and I’ll prepare a short screen recording.

And I agree, renaming original Media as part of a workflow aint good or best practice.

I think I’ve worked out the logic to avoid this. I’ll update the script when successfully coded and tested.

And yes, the original OIGE is still in my Script menu.

No. I don’t mean that one. That one will have no effect. It’s the one named “Open Stills in Graphic Editor.cs” that should be removed if there.
