Are you using this to shoot video? I bought a follow focus with hard stops. I set it up I can’t go past infinity or beyond zero.

I finished a feature length documentary in FCPX 10.4.4. It went smoother than I anticipated. I used X2Pro Convert for the sound mix. All in all very stable. But I do miss tracks.

When I save a preset, I create a category name, say the name of a film it will be used in. Then I reveal the FX browser and type in the search field or just scroll down to the category name I created.

Full frame may allow more resolution to reframe in post, but you’re right, if your workflow works, than keep working. Super 35mm film is only about the size of APS-C.

When I did Army of Darkness, we used VistaVison on the FX unit, 35mm running sideways through the camera, about full frame of a current 5D Mark III shooting a still, because we needed the resolution for special FX.

It is a lot of hype, but as manufactures move to it and it becomes affordable on cheaper cameras, it will become the norm.

He’s talking about a hard edge matte box. It crops the sensor as you shoot.

Ryan,

If you install the free MagicLantern software on your camera, if you camera model supports it, you can crop in camera and even do 2:39 cinemascope. They are working on a version that supports shooting 4K on certain Canon DSLRs as well.

I’ve used ML for years to shoot CinemaDNG RAW in different aspect ratios. There are even frame guides as well as the ability to add your own.
