Alright guys, after updating everything and speaking with Color Grading Central, they couldn’t figure it out either. Here’s what they responded:

My developer advises to work with images of a smaller resolution.

This is likely a bug in FCPX or OpenGL drivers as Apple never placed
any limitation on the size of an image processed in FxPlug.

What I’ve tried as mentioned above is that if I delete the affected frame and click undo, the image comes back to normal. However, when I did that with all the affected frames on my 3 mins clip and exported, the footage developed more issues than before.

I don’t mind trying out with the above suggestion: working in a lower resolution, however how does that work? Can I work in a 720p timeline and still export 1080p ProRes 422 HQ without loss?

Any suggestions? I really need to finish this film.

    Thanks Robin.

I’ve been scared to update my FCP since it’s been back to back projects and currently editing the feature. I wanted to wait right after I was done this one. Plus I just upgraded my storage to make sure everything was backed-up before hand. I’ll also see if there is an update from LUT Utility. I’ll see what they have to say as well.

I also have Resolve when I got my BlackMagic cam, however I can’t even seem to look at footage in my library. Apparently my iMac 27 i5 w/16gb ram is too slow to run it which sucks big time. I’m not too familiar with the software but I tried even editing in 480p and still the library footage doesn’t even come up or while scrubbing through the footage, I simply get static.

As for your other suggestion of getting the same effect another way, which way would that be? I thought Vision Color was the one who made it for LUT Utility? How else would I be able to go about this?

    Hey RK,

I actually didn’t think of sending CGC an e-mail but I am now in the process. I just wasn’t sure if this was a FCPX issue or a plugin issue.

I should have mentioned for detailed specifications. I’m editing footage in 1080P Apple ProRes 422 HQ, using LUT Utility Osiris M31 to Log. FCPX 10.1.1. I am seeing these unwanted frame overlays in both the timeline and the exported file.

  • You nailed it on the money Jeremy. Thanks a bunch. I’m going to start better organizing my footage like all of you were saying earlier. I think that’s the best idea, and good work practice.

    Thanks everyone

  • The first image is the import screen.

When I click on the arrow next to Video Production, I only see one file and no folders whatsoever.

As you can see, I have many more folders on my hard drive and FCPX doesn’t show them…?

  • That makes sense. I guess that’s what I currently have:

    Video_Production > Beauty Commercial > “Camera Media”
Video_Production > Wind Turbines Doc > “Camera Media”

When I try to go into the Video_Production folder, I see no subfolders (Beauty Commercial etc…)

Colin: I will try and take a snapshot for you this afternoon to illustrate this. It looks exactly like the images from the original posters.

  • Sorry about that, I should have mentioned.

I’m using a Firewire800 external hard drive format for Mac. On the hard drive, I have a three folders which include the two FCPX Project and Event folders and my footage folder called Video Production. In the Video Production folder, I have more subfolders for each project.

I manage to see the External HD when in the import screen, but when I try getting into the Video product folder, i see nothing. I have some MOV files and they don’t even show up.

On friday, when I read this thread, I changed the Video Production folder to PRIVATE, and that worked. I added new footage in the folder and it did the same thing. I changed the folder name again to PRIVATE Folder, and all files and folders appeared. I added new footage yesterday and all disappeared again.

What am I doing that could be causing this?

  • Hey Guys,

Encountered the same problem over the week-end. Luckily enough, I found this only thread on the web that speaks of it. Changed the folder name as you instructed and it worked. Until I added other new week-end footage into that folder, gave me the same problem. I renamed the folder again and everything appeared again. I just added a single file into that folder and I now back as square one, folder won’t appear anymore. Also, rename the folder isn’t working anymore.

    Any ideas?
