    So when I take the files from the camera via log and transfer the files are being trans-coded for use in FCP, ..is that why it takes so long? like 2 to 3 times real-time? the other day it took about 1.5 hrs. to transfer about 60 clips, around 20 min. of total video

    Thanks Michale…at this point I’m working with DV footage will need to edit and export to DVD studio pro or I DVD will need some simple DVD authoring

    Thanks guys…so editing from the internal drive, will I not be able to do a project this is a wedding. If I capture all the video to the internal drive, then get an external drive can I transfer the video files to the new drive then start my editing?

    So I will but in. I’m looking at a 20″ imac 2.0 intel a 2008 model 4gigs of ram 1 fw400 1 fw800 so can I capture via 400 and send it directly out the 800 to an external H/D and edit with FCP or FCExp.

    I think I will also be working with some AVCHD down the road

    Save the tax payers the money. It sounds like you have a very nice setup, Vegas is a nice platform. If you have a kid that loves the craft then he and his family should make the investment. FCP is a very powerful and expensive tool. The kids that are more advanced should not drive your budget decisions or should I say the tax payers budget.
