Make sure to check the – Use “Composite with Layer” Track – parameter in the BCC Particle System tab.

    NateW,

In trying to recreate what you were doing, BCC Light Sweep worked like it should. I’ll try and dig a little deeper to see where you may be running into problems. In the meantime, one very obvious question, and forgive me if it belittles your intelligence but, did you remember to Alt+drag the BCC effect into your timeline?

    NateW,

Sorry to hear about your experience with the training DVD. If you can tell me the effect you are trying to create, I can try and help. Over the years, BCC has evolved into a rather complex set of tools, and any training video can go only so deep without running into hours for each plugin (times 180 for the lot).

But there are a lot of users on this forum who may be able to help you as you go as well. Peter McAuley from Boris FX frequents this forum and can always give you tips “from the source.”

You could also try using the BCC Fire plugin but then set the fire appearance to ‘Smoke Only.’ You could even change the smoke color to funky florescent greens like in the genie movies. A small touch of BCC wave on the smoke would also give you that deliberate ‘genie fume dance.’

Do you have fields turned on in export settings? Excuse me if this is too obvious.

If you’re using Red, you could try this.

If you have the logo artwork in EPS, you can import it into Red and convert it into an extruded spline (if you want 3D that is). Set your logo colors etc. If you don’t have an eps logo, you can trace it with the pen tool.

Next, duplicate the Spline extrude layer, nest the two Spline Extrusions into a 3D container, and increase the XYZ size of the new layer ever so slightly while maintaining position. This will be your frost. In the materials tab, change each surface to glass, and change the default green color to a very very light shade of blue, bordering on pure white.

In the Bump map tab, set Bump height to about 8.5, Source to procedural, Type to rock, X Scale 200, Y Scale 600, Res 1024,
Detail 100. Play with the lighting. Some bright ambience with a strong spot side light should give you a pretty good effect.

Now play with the opacity and specular intensity of the glass faces. You will now have a 3D logo with an outer “skin” that will have a snowy texture. By playing with the opacity, you’ll be able to get a “Frost.” Be sure to add that “icing up sound effect.” And let me know if I was wasting your time 🙂
