Thank you, Peter. I will be doing some more testing this week and will update the thread.

“Lines with dust on it” means, I probably had the wrong setting – line in instead of mic in. I think this will be an easy fix. I haven’t used this device very much, so I seem to have to relearn the settings every time I get it out. I def need to doublecheck the bit depth, though, and match things with my Nikon D7000 and FCP7.

Well, no luck again. This time I moved Motion over to another computer altogether. I think It downloads ok; it’s on installation that it hangs at 1 minute.

Where is it downloading to? I can’t find any files on my computer from these attempts.

    Next?

    Thank you for responding.

Chris – I am not on FCPX. I’m on 7.0. I did not get it from the App Store. I’ve had it longer than there WAS an App Store. That means I started with Motion 2. hmmm…not sure where the subsequent upgrades are, but obviously I’m on 5 now. I like the idea of unlimited downloading (LOL). Although, I’m sure, at this point, Apple doesn’t support my versions either. If I were able to re-download, I wouldn’t mind throwing away Motion.

If I throw away Motion 5.0.2. (I think I did buy that version from App Store, but I don’t see it in my App Store Purchases, just the “won’t-download” version 5.0.6). How would I then be able to get my old version back? I’ve definitely registered back when I bought it.

Simon – I’ve tried the compressing and moving all the files out of their native folders and all that stuff everyone says, but it still isn’t working. It hangs at 1 minute left. And actually, before it hangs, it rotates between 3-5-4-3 minutes left. THAT’S weird!

I find it hard to believe I’m the only one with this issue and there’s no resolution in the whole world.

Thanks for helping! Any other ideas?

February 21, 2013 at 6:44 pm in reply to: Finding a place to shoot interviews?

I’ve been a member of my chamber of commerce for several years, so I have access to space at their facility. I also have relationships with several members that may have space at their office, whether it’s a lobby (which can be noisy but can also be beautiful), or an office room. These can usually be used for free, depending on your relationship. Offer to promote them on your site or Facebook page and they’ll be happy to help. Perhaps you can work something out after hours when everyone’s gone home and it’s quiet.

Also, you can even shoot at a home. If you can find someone that is VERY successful, homes at the $250K+ level have many beautiful locations to shoot–living room, fireplace, office/library. Through a chamber connection you might even be able to get special access after hours when it’s quiet to a Homearama (Parade of Homes/neighborhood home show) home; again, offer promotion as thanks.

  • Awesome! I will have to spend some time with this, but it looks promising! I have managed to get thumbnails to show up, and some previews, but your post makes a lot of sense. it seems odd it would have to do that for purchased templates, but this looks like it will work.

I’ll let you know how it goes!

    Thanks a bunch!

  • Awesome! That worked. Now, logic dictates that if I can make a screencap of the Title and the Transition, and put them in the same folder, I should get those previews as well?

I tried, but it didn’t work. I did a screengrab of the Title slide-saved as png, and a screenflow of the transition, which I exported to mov. I put both those files in the same directory as the .png. Is there a particular name I should use (i.e. “large” instead of the project “703” that it is).

    Any more suggestions?

    Thanks again!

  • Wow! We’re almost there! 🙂

I have small and large png’s for all my templates. I just think Motion isn’t looking for them in the right place. Also the png’s don’t seem to be really descriptive (like a lens flare), so I was going to make my own, but I don’t know what location they would then need to be in for Motion to see it in the project browser on program start.

    Thanks again!

  • Is this what you want to see? Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

I’d really like to keep all my templates organized.

I think the issue of the preview not coming up is that templates from mvfx don’t include media.

  • OOPS. I posted the wrong image. Try this one instead.
