October 28, 2014 at 9:25 pm in reply to: Cant connect external hard drive to new iMac 27 2013 slimHow were you connecting the drive to your previous computer? $30 gets you a Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adapter straight from the Apple site. That should work just fine, and you’ll get better speeds than USB2 anyways.

October 11, 2014 at 12:19 am in reply to: Change file icons – not just one but for every file – MacGo -> Go to Folder
/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/Look for the GenericDocumentIcon.icns file. Put one copy on your desktop (for editing) and another somewhere else (for backup). You can then open the desktop copy in preview, save as a .png, edit / change / whatever, save again. Change the file extension. Put that new file in the same folder, overwrite, restart. Should work. Here’s where I got this info:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/3454201/mac-os-x-document-icon-template
https://osxdaily.com/2014/07/27/mac-os-x-system-icons-location/Do this with care. Both of these sites say this is a little advanced, FYI. Read those pages first!
Not my fault if something gets messed up! Good luck!—

Are you trying to start it after a restart? If yes, try powering down completely first. Be sure you’re holding the D key down (until you see AHT) and not spamming it. Be sure you’re pushing the key quick enough. Must be before the grey screen pops up. Be sure you have all of your other peripherals unplugged (external HDD, RAID, external ODD) only have the keyboard, mouse, display, and ethernet, nothing else. Hope this helps!

July 2, 2014 at 6:41 pm in reply to: G-Tech G-Speed eS RAID Single Drive Failure – How Should I Replace The Failed Drive?Hi Jim!
Firstly, I would agree that you should NOT turn off the RAID until you get that new drive in there and the RAID rebuilt. According to G-Tech, the second number in the series (the 3 in 1/3/2) corresponds to the port that particular enclosure is plugged in to. The ports start at PORT1 on the left and count up as you go across (PORT1 PORT2 PORT3 PORT4 if you’re looking at the back of the computer). The third number in the series (the 2 in 1/3/2) corresponds to the disk number. In these enclosures, the disk numbers start at number 1 on the top and count up as they go down:
DISK1
DISK2
DISK3
DISK4
Therefore, I would say that DISK2 in whichever enclosure is plugged in to port 3 on the eSATA card is the bad one. All of this information came from this document from the G-Tech website about the eS enclosure, specifically pages 16 to 19:
https://support.g-technology.com/sites/default/files/G-SPEED-eS-Manual-Win-11-05-07.pdf
Please use this document to check my information and confirm before you proceed! Afterall, as they say in big red letters, and as you said, your data is at risk! Good luck!— Tyler
