Bounce to disk or mix to disk is a rendering process that happens in real time. You have a number of different tracks of audio and maybe some effects and the total length is 5 minutes of audio? Your bounce time should be 5 minutes. Mixing of multiple audio tracks and rendering effects take some time.

Simple file conversion can be done more quickly than real time.

Sorry for the short answer…

Anyway.

Thre are shielded speakers out there. You won’t find them at $100.
The RF could be getting into the cable between the speaker and the computer.

Radio Shack sells a line of small speakers, the Minimus Series. Some of them have metal housings. The old Minimus Seven are highly regarded as actually sounding pretty good for traditional TV set comparisons.

You DO lose a LOT of low end information because little speakers of any sort simply don’t have the physical capability to reproduce low frequencies.

If you’re doing serious professional video, you need to know what’s going on down there. Small main speakers with a subwoofer can do that. The MAckie 826 are larger but also have pretty good low end response.

It’s a matter of perpective. There are a lot of new shooter/editors who think they don’t need an audio person (or can’t afford one given what they are hiring out for.)

They do this until they get in a jam due to their own ignorance and end up with crappy audio and lose the client. The smart ones learn that, at some point, a one person band can only do so much. Then they hire someone who can provide them with professional peace of mind. It’s all part of growing up in the business.

I get gigs from these folks all the time because I know how to help with the video and lighting and gripping. So the key, really, is versatility. So from my perspective, I’m working more, a lot more, not less.

Dear Rodney,

Your humility is only exceeded by your graciousness.

Here’s the thumb rule for impedance.

Low to high; good. High to low; bad.

Think of a 3″ fire hose being capped off to feed a 1″ hose. The LOW impedance of the 3″ hose feeds the HIGH impedance of the 1″ hose. That works.

Turn it around. The 1″ hose feeding the 3″ hose. That’s high into low. That doesn’t work.
