> Guitar amps are designed for a particular tonal range. There may be some impedance mismatch. A guitar amp would work (for one channel) but you may not like the sound.

> Speakers, themselves, are not powerful. The amp that drives them is. You can buy cheap speakers anywhere.

> You can use anything you like. It’s the “like” part that will set you on your journey.

Brian is right, one 442 will not do. The 442 has four direct outputs, but you’re asking about 8. This is a situation in which more information is required.

If they really need isolated outputs on every mic instead of a mix, you need a mixer with that many outputs and a recorder with that many tracks. There are many solutions, but the choice gets smaller if you are recording in the field without AC power.

Hello Chuck,

Technically, the data rate of CD audio is about 1450kbps.

I suspect they were referring to 192 kbps mono, which would be 384kbps stereo

1450kbps stereo is significantly greater than 384 kbps. Can you tell the difference? Maybe not.

192kbps 44,100 khz is still compressed. It is not the same as 16-bit, 44.1 kHz.

Remember that the whole chain must be considered. If you send a 384kbps stereo file out, it may end up recompressed on a facility’s hard drive, through their digital STL link from studio to transmitter or during compression for streaming. In these cases, you’re headed toward a “house of cards” by compressing an already compressed clip and the sound will suffer.

Having said that, spots are sent out all the time at 384kbps stereo, or less.

Well it’s a pretty easy topic. The advancing technology has allowed an increasingly decreased dynamic range. The artists want their CDs louder than the competition. Some mastering engineers are against this, but the artists want it LOUD. Yes, there are distortion artifacts. Yes there is no dynamic range to speak of. Not everyone is on this ride, but more are than are not.

It is what it is.
