Problem solved thanks to threads I should have found earlier.
First I trashed the Quicktime reciept files which brought me to this point then I trashed my preferances for final success. Great forum! thanks!

G-Tech – w/Firewire 800 & Firewire 400
These seem bommer so far – I have 3 x250 gig drives.
