i think the best way to learn is by experimenting by yourself …there is some nice tutorial that can helps you ,in creative cow or like those of Chad perkins you can find them in lynda.com , there is other great in videocopilot but i suggest this particular book, absolutely great “Adobe After Effects CS4 – Visual Effects and Compositing Studio Techniques” from Mark Christiansen
