<p>I&#8217;m starting up a new series and I want to upgrade/update my OS and Avid<br />
 without alienating my last few projects.  Also, my magic mouse and<br />
keyboard lack functions on my current system , Sonoma, (no swipe and no<br />
touchID) </p>
<p>Currently, I&#8217;m on a Mac Studio 2022 M1 Max 32 gb ram: Sonoma 14.7.4 </p>

<p>I&#8217;m about to start a feature and I&#8217;m going to need a good external drive for the media.  I&#8217;ve been using Samsung T7 Portable SSD &#8211; (MU-PC2T0R/AM &#8211; USB 3.2 (Gen2, 10Gbps) External SSD &#8211; 2TB) and have had no problems with this drive.  But it&#8217;s 4 years old now.  </p>
<p>Is there something better now that has a good quality/price balance or should I&hellip;</p>

Does anyone have any suggestions or advise in terms of getting an economically priced and good quality external drive for the footage? I figure one TB is good but maybe I should get two to be on the safe side.</p>

I option drag it in and it plays perfectly fine but it crashes if I try to edit with it.  I try to transcode it and the transcode button is greyed out.  I try to consolodate it and the system crashes.  Basically, I can&#8217;t start editing it and I&#8217;m on a timeline.</p>

<p>Thanks!  This chart it very helpful.  The one thing I&#8217;m confused about is this:  </p>
<p>Since a new Avid is good on 3 OS&#8217;s (Big Sur, Monterey and Ventura), why wouldn&#8217;t everyone just choose the lastest (Big Sur).  Is one OS more stable than another?  Is one OS bumpy?  Basically, why would you want one over another?</p>

<p>I&#8217;ll be starting a series in a few months and I want to make sure I get the correct Avid/Mac configuration.</p>
<p>I have a Mac Studio M1 with 32 gigs of ram.  I cut with 3 monitors: one for bins, one for Composer and one in Full-Screen mode.  (I don&#8217;t use&hellip;</p>

That&#8217;s a really illuminating spreadsheet.  When you say multi-cam workflow, what do you mean?  I&#8217;m used to working on TV and Film with all shots multi cam-ed with A and B cams, sometimes with C cams too.  Or are you talking about an even more robust usage of multi-cam.  The thing is, I&#8217;m about to start a show and I had to get the M1 max&hellip;</p>

<p>Quick question. Is the Mac  Studio base model fully compatible with Avid. Will it run smoothly for  normal scripted offline editing?</p>
<p>The base model has an M1 max chip with 32 gig of unified memory (Ram).  It has a 10 core CPU and a 24 core GPU.</p>
<p>Will this Mac age well in terms of future Avid software?</p>
<p>Any help would be appreciated.</p>
