    Hey Trevor,

Sounds like the right time to move up.

Out of interest, what are you editing on?
And, does your system come with Thunderbolt?
It will obviously also be dependant on the “size” of the footage.

I am very happy with the Samsung T9 drives, they run at 2,000Mbps.
But with the new generation 5 SSD coming out, Samsung 9100 PRO, PCIe 5.0, NVMe M.2 SSD
    1TB version starts from £150.00.

The one to watch out for this autumn is the 8TB version – I’ve got two empty slots inside my Dell, which would take it to 18TB.

Sequential Read will run up to 14,800 MB/s.

Sequential Write will Up to 13,400 MB/s.

Just make sure to check if you neat it with or without heat-sink.

    Hi,

Recently, I mean 3 days ago, I had an unpleasant issue with a client’s Sandisk SSD, which is, I believe, not more than 2 years old. It was connected to my MacBook Pro and I was working fine, then I had a lunch break, and when I came back and pressed play on Premiere Pro 25, it didn’t play, and I saw glitches on the canvas, so I restarted Premiere, but no luck. And I discovered that I don’t see the drive on my desktop, and the drive was very hot. And it doesn’t work anymore. I had to format it and erase. Luckily, I have the backup on another drive. So long story short, no matter which drive you use, always have a consistent backup on another drive. Personally, I prefer Crucial SSDs, but there are many brands to choose from. The most important thing is to establish a good backup system.

Mads to the rescue once again! Thanks Mads. I appreciate your time and knowledge. I’m on a Avid on a Mac Studio with a M1 Max chip and 32 gig of ram. I’ve decided to go with the T9. It’s inexpensive fast and portable. One project, one drive kind of thing. Have a good one! 🙂

Hey Devrim! Thanks for this. I’m going to get the 1st AE to do a back-up of all media. Great advise! Trevor
