Wow! I think you might be doing some unnecessary steps.

Welcome aboard. 😉
Unfortunately the Radeon 2600XT is not qualified for FCPX. FCPX requires a qualified GPU or it will not just be sluggish but glacial in it’s performance (or lack there of).
The NVIDIA card is qualified, but no speed demon.

To top it off, two GPUs are currently not supported in FCPX, so I’m pretty sure FCPX is using the 2600 only.
If you can remove the 2600xt and see if performance improves. If not you need a new GPU.
This Radeon 5770 is very good:

Try setting the blending mode to premultiplied mix. I think that should fix it. If that works, just select all your titles in timeline and change them in one swoop in the inspector.

July 29, 2013 at 10:37 pm in reply to: A custom keyboard shortcuts iPad app, to hold us overTotally agree. I was actually referring to a 3 way color correction iPad app for Color that Tangent Wave did a few years ago.
https://www.tangentwave.co.uk/products_vwave.asp
It wasn’t as good as true tactile response, but because it was so simple and the trackballs were far enough apart it did allow some motor memory. It worked very well.

I think it needs to be much more than just a bunch of buttons thrown on an iPad. It needs to offer something that makes the user experience better than what can be done with a mouse and keyboard. e.g. audio faders for adding automation to a roll based mixing bus, color correction control surface, adding and editing real time markers during playback, etc.

A freeze like that defiantly sounds like a hardware problem. A buddy of mine had that happen with his iMac. Make sure your Time Machine backup is updated and then take it to an Apple Store.

Something is really up with your system if you keep getting crashes. We just finished Day 12 of shooting, importing hundreds of audio and video clips a day. Zero crashes or problems at all (and that is on an ancient 2007 MacBook Pro).
We are doing DIT in FCPX too. Creating camera archives in the background, removing silent channels, grouping audio, etc. No problems.
Concerning some crashes. I was a little unclear, are you copying your 5D files to a external drive first and then importing into FCPX, or are you importing straight from the card?
Compound Clips – the concern is placing an entire chapter or reel in a compound clip. That is what can cause your event database to “bloat” and case performance troubles. Using compound clips as an editing source is FANTASTIC in FCPX, works great!

A nice thing about FXFactory is that you can demo all the plugins. No risk trail.

Actually it was removed with 10.0.6 update, October 2012.
