Thanks Stephan. I actually fixed the problem by trying various fixes listed in a youtube video. It turns on this is a very common Sony Vegas bug that people have experienced.

Ok, I got confused with “maintain aspect ratio” and “match aspect ratio.” I chose “match aspect ratio” and also selected “maintain aspect ratio.” The quality is a lot better. However, I am getting an out memory error saying I should close my applications…but nothing else is open. I have 8 GB of RAM …nothing else is running, and I have a top of the line computer that was built 6 months ago so I don’t think it’s a hardware issue.
