What issues do you mean Peter? My plan is to use an external recorder to record in an avid compatible broadcast ready type of format so that the conversion isn’t such an arduous process. That way I take my shot material directly to my cutter and he starts to work in a much easier workflow. Other than the time code issue which I’m going to have to solve this seems like the fastest most direct way to get material into our avid server.
I shot with the Canon 5D and the convert process took so long it was a pain. The material was amazing but the conversion process took a long time to upload into our server.
    Thanks,
    Tony

thanks Philip… it was exactly what I wanted to see! I have shot with the Canon 5D and loved it but now I can’t wait to get my hands on the Nikon D4.
    thanks again,

  • Rob,
I didn’t get a chance to check out your doc yet but I too shot one for about 10 days in LA a few months back using the 5D. I did have a sound man with me, a producer and correspondent and those extra hands did help. It sure made quick lens changes easier.
Everyone we talked to prior to the shoot kept telling us that what we were trying to do couldn’t be done… a real run and gun shoot following people around the city to make a 24hour city profile of LA from various perspectives.
As it turns out… I was able to do it and the camera was a blast to shoot with. Most of my shooting these last few years, except for stills, has been with full size Sony, Panasonic or Ikegami cameras so this was a wonderful change.
When I get a chance I can share some of my perspectives on shooting long form with the Canon 5D but for now have to run.
    Thanks for sharing,
