I was 100% sure that I tried exactly this – but obviously I messed up something.

Now I tried it again and it works perfectly!

ok, what worked is to create the desired shape with the pen tool together with the shift button…

It’s definitely interlaced.

I just ignored the message for this time, and transcode went well.

It looks crappy (but no artifacts) which is maybe because of the camera anyway…
