The reel name should be right, but the media settings as well, audio and video, frame resolution and sample rate.

If the settings are identical on the capture and the timecode is good and continuous throughout the tape you should be good to go.

Mark’s right on the money. Unless you have $300 disposable income that you don’t mind falling out of your pocket, I wouldn’t suggest you buy FCPX on day one. First, it’s going to be a beta release as we all know, and second, there’s going to be a lot of information coming down the road after its release that will give you a better handle on whether or not this is going to work for you. I don’t think FCP7 is set to self-destruct on the release of FCPX, and 7 will probably continue to work into the next OS.

Can’t help with that information. File errors are usually format errors, video or audio codecs, frame rates. Memory is more commonly image sizes, large still images, not enough still image allocation, or mismatches in sequence settings.

Please give the exact item properties of the clips you’re editing and the exact item properties of the sequence in which you’re editing. Select a clip in the Browser and press Cmd-9 or Edit>Item Properties>Format. Select a sequence in the Browser and repeat.

Eh? The DVD specification requires MPEG-2. That’s the format it uses. It’s got nothing to do with QuickTime.
