Hey, I realise that this thread is a few years old now – but came across it with the same problem, and seem to have found a SOLUTION!!!

Luckily I happen to know a guy that owns a full time production company, and being of the last generation (pretty much) of people who actually studied with film at university, and having seen all the developments of digital etc, he knows his stuff!

We had a long walk through on the phone, and basically what it came down to was this:

Final Cut (which I am using) was automatically forcing all imported clips, whether audio or video, to conform to NTSC settings.
In the ‘final cut pro’ drop down tab at the top left, I went to ‘Audio/Video Settings…’, and in there found that the ‘Sequence Preset’ was set to some variation of NTSC. This meant that, unintentionally, the audio being imported into Final Cut was automatically being changed to 30 frames per second (I believe that’s right – and yes, I know audio doesn’t have frames, I am primarily an audio buff and a video amateur 🙂 ).

All I did was change the sequence preset to ‘HDV 1080i50’, and viola, the audio (which I had to RE-IMPORT under the new settings, and with a different file name – CRUCIAL!!!) was not changed, and it conformed with the 25 fps format of my DSLR footage.

This fixed the problem!!! I hope this helps somebody – I just wanted to put it out there!! I may go to other threads on the subject and spread this, because it was a nightmare!! The guy that helped me said that it took him 3 months to figure it out himself…

    Peace!

    Tom
